CranioSacral Therapy in pregnancy

CranioSacral Therapy in Pregnancy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) can help pregnant women along on their journey into motherhood by releasing restrictions in the body to create an optimal birthing experience.

During pregnancy, one of the primary focuses of CST is to release restrictions in the pelvis to ease ligament pain, low back pain, hip pain, and promote ideal fetal positioning and alignment of the pelvis. CST can release restrictions and therefore create more room for baby to grow and more room for mam to feel comfortable.

During a session fears or previous childbirth traumas can be gently addressed and released as well as addressing any anxiety and other pregnancy and postpartum moods/ challenges.

The soft, hands-on bodywork techniques of the CranioSacral therapist are non-invasive and serve to relieve pain and dysfunction in the body. The body’s physical release of myofascial restriction facilitates the innate potential for increased wellness and a peaceful consciousness.

What happens during a CST treatment?

Treatment takes place with you lying fully clothed usually partially reclined on your back and supported with pillows or if you would prefer on your side.

Treatment may start at the feet or the head as part of an evaluation in order to work out where your body needs the therapist to start.

The therapist will apply a 5 gram pressure to release and redirect the fascia (connective tissue) of your body. This will intern improve the movement within the CranioSacral system thus releasing tight structures and promote your bodies healing process. CST techniques influence movement and coordination, pain pathways, the digestive system, the respiratory system, heart function, the endocrine system… potentially the majority of the body systems.

Treatments usually last 45 minutes. Pregnant clients can safely have CST up to and beyond their due date.
