Sports Therapy  is a comprehensive session lasting 45 minutes. The initial session allows the therapist to gain as much information as possible about the sports/ musculoskeletal injury and understand the client’s needs and goals.

Appointments for Sports Therapy in Sunderland Physiotherapy Clinic are carried out by Lauren Dobson and Nathan Skidmore.

You don’t always have to be injured or in pain to receive an assessment. A Sports Therapist can help you improve your personal performance, whatever it may be, with a functional movement screening, with tips and advice on progressions and adaptations to your daily routines.

We can liaise with your GP and coaches as needed. Especially if other management options, investigations or if a referral to a consultant is required.

We will take time to listen to you, which in turn helps us understand what is happening and therefore diagnose the problem accurately. From here we will then give you a concise treatment and management plan, working towards your needs and goals.

The client will be asked a series of questions before a thorough physical assessment in which the therapist will look at the client’s presentation, movement and functional movement.

Following this a diagnosis will be discussed including treatment, rehabilitation and prognosis, giving you all of the information you need to progress towards your targets and a pain-free lifestyle.

You are advised to bring along a list of any medication you are taking and any useful reports if you have had any tests or scans. You may wish to bring shorts/ vest top as applicable.

Initial consultation (and treatment) will last 45 minutes.

Every opportunity will be given to you to ask questions about your condition to ensure you have a full understanding of the diagnosis and its management.

Follow up appointments allow the therapist to analyse and adapt the advise/ programme accordingly.

We are able to schedule more hands on treatment and rehabilitation, focusing on pain relief, tissue modification and exercise prescription.

Not only is everyone’s injury different, but their goals and required outcome may be different too. That is why every client is unique to us, and no assessment or treatment is the same, but bespoke to YOUR needs.

It is normal to experience a temporary mild increase in your symptoms following your initial assessment. These symptoms will normally subside within 12-24 hours. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any ongoing symptoms or questions about your treatment, we are here to help.
